Breakfast in Brazil, Lunch in Capo Verde, Dinner in Marrakech and next afternoon Palma!

We had our longest flight day of the whole trip the day we left Natal for Cape Verde. Smooth flight as usual, we had to avoid some bad weather, but nothing serious. The longing for finally going home to Mallorca grew when we landed safe on the island of Sal, Cape Verde, got some food and water - and we decided neither to go to Madeira nor to Tenerife, but to Marrakech for the night.

After refueling and some waiting for paperwork we continued flying and touched ground 5 hours later in Moroco. Close to twelve hours of flying! Breakfast we had in Brazil, and Dinner in Marrakech! We went to hotel, checked in and took a cab to the market where we grabbed some food on one of the last booths open. It was great to be there! Of course we checked out Pacha afterwards, but it was dead. So what was better than going to bed and fly next morning straigt to Palma?So we did! After breakfast, again on Marrakech’s market, and with excellent tea and coffee, we headed for the airport and left for Ibiza. Why Ibiza? Because of immigration, it is an international airport with customs. From Ibiza it was another 35 min flight to Son Bonet airport, Palma, where this nice journey found it’s end!

Leaving Rio for Natal

From now on things happen quickly. We left beautiful Rio de Janeiro in the morning and arrived late afternoon (-1h time difference) in Natal, close to Equator. Not the best place to be. But we do not want to stay long: Before sunset we will be airborne again and will cross the Atlantic Ocean in estimated 6 hours and 20 minutes flight time to Cape Verde. Weather is on our side and we hope all will go as planned. After Cape Verde we will fly either Madeira or Tenerife, stay over night and fly next day to Palma.

Ipanema sunrise and Favela tour.

Look at the beautiful sunrise over Ipanema beach, this is really nice to see. Also very interesting was our tour through some Favelas. Although a bit touristic, us was given good information over history of the Favelas and how they work. Our tour guide was www.favelatour.com who made a fantastic job bringing us secure through these quite unsafe areas.

Two times we spent an evening at MAURI’s restaurant, a place really worth to see because of best food, nice old decoration and a very special owner.

From Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro

After our short stay we left Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. It was an amazing flight along the brazilian atlantic coast, but the best was the approach to Rio. To see the green rainforest covered hills and the raising buildings along the broad beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana was just awesome. We were lucky that we had good weather and after check-in at our Hotel at Ipanema, we took immediately a walk along those two world famous beaches.

Why? Some business during the trip can not harm anybody, that’s why we did stop today in Sao Paulo. As you can see we were kind of early birds, getting up way before sunrise, did some nice photos on the airfield and took off to land 1:20 hrs later in the worlds’ fourth largest city by population.

Exploring the south coast.

So we are currently 8 travelers and thought maybe its not a bad idea to go different ways - at least a day or so. Thats why Wolfgang, Tom and Sven took a rental car to visit Eberhard, a friend from Mallorca living currently in his house near Praia do rosa. That idea turned out to be a very good one, as it is just paradise. Just one and a half hour drive down direction south and we found us at a place that was like one of the nicest we have seen on our trip. Look at the pictures, so green everything, and the people are friendly, beach is not crowded and everybody relaxed. They spend a whole day there, enjoyed Eberhards hospitality and had a fantastic dinner overlooking the beach.

After they spent the night there, next day all were together again enjoying a day at the beach on Florianopolis Island. That place was nice, very authentic, not so much tourists and a restaurant which is really worth to see. People leave their comments on pieces of paper and hang them somewhere on the wall or stick them to the ceiling! They have thousands of notes there - and of course the smilingflyers must not miss in there!
We hang around at a beach bar the rest of the day, Tom went to take some pictures of some artists selling their stuff on the market.

Flying along the coast of brazil was just amazing. This country is really beautiful as seen from the air. All these colours, all green and blue, the mountains just behind the coast, woods, fields in all greens and yellows - to fall in love with!

We arrived in the afternoon at Florianopolis.

No wonder this is a favourite destination for a lot of travelers from all over the world, and no wonder at all people here are a mixture of different countries’ immigrants. And have a look, a lot of beautiful people around here, eh!

Please say hello to our new travelers on board, Mikael and Hakan! Funny guys from good old cold Sweden, they are so happy to be in South America - let the pics tell you!
